The work of 15 contemporary Israeli artists is on display at American University’s Katzen Arts Center now through May 18. The exhibit, “Personal Landscapes: Contemporary Art from Israel,” illustrates the “physical, emotional and intellectual landscape of Israel today,” in what might be the “largest, most varied, and most innovative exhibit of contemporary Israeli art ever mounted in Washington, D.C.,” according to a museum brochure. Curated by Dalia Levin, Jack Rasmussen, and Russell Stone, “Personal Landscapes” is a collaboration of the American University Museum, the Center for Israel Studies and the Naomi and Nehemiah Cohen Foundation.
The curators will lead a walk-through discussion of the exhibit on Thursday, April 10 at 5 p.m. An opening reception will follow at 6 p.m., featuring several of the artists, as well as Israeli Ambassador Sallai Meridor and his wife. Those planning to attend the reception are encouraged to send an RSVP to Adina Kanefield, Deputy Director of the Center for Israel Studies, at adina.kanefield@american.edu.
The Katzen Arts Center is located at the intersection of Nebraska and Massachusetts Avenues in Washington, D.C. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free.
