Transitioning to life

Since Eugene Frederick, a 57-year-old Maryland resident, lost part of a leg as a result of a traffic accident last summer, he has faced a life-threatening infection, weeks of rehabilitation, and adjustments to a new, prosthetic leg.

"I don’t want to go up there, stand up and fall flat on my face with the first step (with the new leg)," Frederick said. But the accident also helped to bring him closer to his family and co-workers, and may have opened a new career path.
