Tons the average U.S. vehicle emits each year: 4.5
Tons the average U.S. resident emits each year: 21

One ton of carbon is emitted by:
Grazing one Ugandan cow for eight months
Flying 2,000 miles in an airplane
Driving 1,350 miles in an SUV

To offset 1,000 tons of carbon you could:
Plant one acre of Douglas firs
Install 125 solar panels in India
Replace 500 100-watt light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
